2.
Do not use the name of your business as
your ad title. You will get higher click
through rates if you use the search
keyword as a title, use something
that grabs people's attention, or use positive
phrases that show solutions.

|
3.
If you serve only a particular region of
the country, make sure to specify this in
your regional settings.
You may be wasting valuable money on ads
that are being clicked on by users from
around the world who could never use your
product or service.

4.
You can save money by targeting
less popular keywords that may be just as
effective for your business. These
may be more specific then your broad keywords,
but will often cost only 5 cents per click
as compared to $1 per click for the more
popular searches. The keyword suggestion
tool under the "tools" menu is very helpful
for finding more keywords that are specific.
|
|
|
5. Use the negative keyword tool
to root out unnecessary search terms. For
example, if you offer surfboards, but not
surf clothing, you would type -clothing
on your negative keywords page.

|
|
6.
Make sure that the keywords you are targeting
are really the keywords that are going to
drive quality traffic to your web site.
For example, if you are a boating company
and you simply use "boat" as your keyword,
you will get many erroneous click-throughs,
try something more specific like "boating
company," or "boat dealer."

7.
The Google Adword system is still new and
has been found to be a bit quirky
in certain areas. For example, I have noticed
that by changing the price per click by
just 10 cents can make the difference between
being displayed and not being displayed
at all, even though the particular keyword
I was targeting only had two advertisers!
Check your account frequently to
make sure your ad is being displayed.
Another tool on the Google Adwords site
that does not work as stated is
the traffic estimator. It will
estimate your site at much higher rankings
then it will actually get. For example,
it may estimate that your site will have
a position of 2 when in reality your site
will be near 15. Check your rankings to
know where you really are being listed.
